Joan, i am also highly critical of the US press (not that ours is any better). recent examples of (indirect) manipulation of public opinion concern mainly the suppression of information. e.g. the harsh warning by the BIS...the dire situation regarding gasoline inventories...the recent contract between SA and China to supply 15 tons of gold annually directly from the Rand refinery, and i am certain more examples can be found. no doubt there are exceptions to the rule, where independent thought is still held high. the NY Post comes to mind. regards, hb
