Hi blake paterson; Continuing with the VIA slideshow notes...

(4) The reason that it is significant that VIA took away a lot of Intel's business after RDRAM screwed Intel up, is not that this had to do with problems with Intel or Rambus, but it is instead an indication of VIA's ability to bring new memory technologies to the market.

VIA was who brought PC133 into existence. PC133 is currently the most effective competitor to RDRAM. Now they are working on DDR. Doesn't that make you a little worried? They've been executing beautifully for over a year, and are planning on having more than 50% of the world's chipset market by the end of the year. And Rambus isn't on their roadmaps. Intel, Rambus' only PC supporter, on the other hand, is giving up market share at a rate never before seen for an industry leading chipset maker.

By the way, did you see that IBM announced a DDR compatible embedded processor? I bet Apple sells DDR machines by 2Q01.

(7) What were we talking about here?

(11) I've hardly labeled every Intel glitch a kiss of death. In fact, it was months after the big Camino fiasco last year before I declared RDRAM dead. So far, DDR has had no glitches or delays. The roadmaps have always had chipsets coming out this summer, no earlier. I don't know where you got information that suggested earlier delivery dates, why don't you collect up some links.

(14) If you want some x16 DDRs, there are 11 products that contain it. Soon, the x32 DDRs will also be available, probably within 2 months. Until then, hide your head in the sand. Just because it isn't available now, it will never be available. Yeah, you're the worlds most logical person.

(32) Re when is it obvious that DDR has won. That will happen long before DDR equipped systems outnumber RDRAM equipped systems. The reason is that everybody (with a few exceptions) is looking forward into the future, not backwards into the past. When there are 30 different makes of machine available with DDR, it will be pretty obvious.

Re identifying myself, or providing any other personal information. It wouldn't convince a single reader, not a single one. No matter what I wrote, whether it was God's truth or a total fabrication, you would call me a liar. There is absolutely no point for me to post that kind of information, no useful content to it at all.

blake, I think I've figured it out. You're a very creative writer. You create commercials for the drug industry, right?
Why not do one for Rambus? I can see your efforts now:

Screen shot: Lightning flashes in the background.
Large text slowly scrolling up the screen in "Star Wars" fashion:

"Rambus, a revolutionary new product that relieves congestion in your PC by 300% over the product you now use.
Not only fast, effective relief, but cooling to your system. Designed by the industries leading technologists to eliminate that annoying latency, while at the same time increasing the bandwith in your PC's digestive system.
Available over the counter at your local distributor."

Then flashing for 5 seconds in very small type at the bottom of the screen:

Improvement occurs only when combined with certain products and under specified conditions. In some cases, the product you currently use may provide more effective relief. Requires purchase of a new personal computer system. Under certain conditions may cause a burning sensation to the extremities. In the event additional relief is required, prices may be higher than the product you currently use. Some distributors may not carry the product.

As you say, all in good fun, and JMHO. <g>

Hi blake_paterson; How wrong you were when you wrote to me 18 months ago (RMBS closed at $57.453 per share):

...
<<) It will take a while for you guys to figure out that DDR took the market, but when Intel admits it, it will be pretty obvious. >> Come on, Carl, it will be obvious only when the number of DDR based desktops begins to overtake the number of RDRAM based desktops. You know that.

No need to reply, just me saying "BWAHAHAHAHAHA!!!" Intel's official release of the DDR based 845 on Monday, the complete elimination of RDRAM from the mainstream desktop market, along with Rambus' precipitous decline is quite enough for me.
