--MS-DOS was just a piece of garbage written
by a couple of hackers from Seattle. It took
the IBM imprimatur to make it into a big seller.--

some - including schulman - would argue that dos was an elegant little program loader which msft failed to properly capitalize upon from a creativity standpoint.

you can call it garbage because it wasn't re-entrant but as windows was coming out a lot of people were working around the dos re-entrancy problems with dos extenders. msft pushed the gui and the command line languished.

it does not follow though that because microsoft squashed the dos command line interface that dos itself was necessarily without utility - in other words 'garbage.'

but why argue with you? you've got napa valley whine to fortify you.
