Fraud Suspect Used False Credentials
The medical research company executive who was arrested on fraud charges Monday served as a top research official at Brooklyn Hospital Center for 10 years even though he never obtained a doctorate, Newsday has learned.

Former Medizone International Chief Executive Joseph Latino was the Director of Hematology for the prestigious New York University-affiliated hospital from 1984 to 1994, according to company filings with federal securities regulators.

The 41-year-old Latino faces fraud charges for spending more than $500,000 of his investors' cash, which was supposed to fund AIDS and hepatitis research, to finance a steady stream of $450-an-hour call girls, first-class travel, and luxury goods between 1994 and 1997, the Manhattan District Attorney's office said Tuesday. He has pleaded not guilty and is free on $25,000 bail.
