Are you saying it's a three-way competition or two?

There are no clear comparisons since each company has different strengths and weaknesses, but I think LU's Microelectronics and GLW could both benefit by merging with SDL.

I certainly don't see LU and JDSU teaming up, at least not in the near-term, simply based on the struggle JDS has had with the DOJ over ETEK.

BTW, I'm impressed with GLW's size and strength in the telecom side of their business. My eyes are bleary from reading their SEC documents.

Nuveen Investments To Offer Peroni Growth Fund

CHICAGO -- John Nuveen Co.'s (JNC) Nuveen Investments began offering financial advisers the Nuveen Peroni growth portfolio mid-year 2000 series, the second in a series of defined portfolios based on the technical analysis of investment strategist Eugene E. Peroni Jr.

In a press release Thursday, the company said the protfolio includes 20 stocks chosen by Peroni: Linear Technology Corp. (LLTC), Quanta Services Inc. (PWR), EMC Corp. (EMC), Micron Technology Inc. (MU), PMC-Sierra Inc. (PMCS), Adobe Systems Inc. (ADBE), Corning Inc. (GLW), SDL Inc. (SDLI), Quaker Oats Co. (OAT), Waters Corp. (WAT), Macromedia Inc. (MACR), Millennium Pharmaceuticals Inc. (MLNM), Pfizer Inc. (PFL), Alpharma Inc. (ALO), Viacom Inc. (VIA), Cooper Cameron Corp. (CAM), ADC Telecommunications Inc. (ADCT), Nortel Networks Corp. (NT), Tollgrade Communications Inc. (TLGD) and Comverse Technology Inc. (CMVT).

The Peroni growth portfolio mid-year 2000 series is available through registered advisors with a 13-month term, the company said. . . .
