INDYY soaring in London Shares in troubled electricity supplier Independent Energy (LSE: IEH.L - news) lit up today when it said one of the rescue options open to it was a sale of the company. There had been no mention of a takeover in its statement to shareholders yesterday, put out after a sharp fall in its share price in New York on Tuesday, writes Jonathan Prynn. In early trading the shares made up around a third of the huge fall they suffered in London after the statement, soaring more than 53%, or 252 1/2p, to 725p. The company said it would 'like to clarify that the strategic alternatives under review include the possibility of an offer for the company'. An Independent Energy spokeswoman said the Stock Exchange had 'encouraged' it to put out a second statement but denied it had been presented with an ultimatum. There were no firm offers on the table, she said. The company, once valued at almost œ1.5 billion, has experienced disastrous billing problems that have forced it to seek emergency funding facilities. uk.finance.yahoo.com
