Housing Starts for May = -3.9% to 1.59m units
Building Permits = -4.3% to 1.49m

Privately owned housing starts in May were at a seasonally adjusted annual rate of 1,592,000, according to estimates reported today by the U.S. Commerce Department's Bureau of the Census. This is 4 (+/-6) percent below the revised April rate of 1,656,000 and 3 (+/-7) percent below the May 1999 rate of 1,649,000.
