<<I've noticed that this thread has lost SOME objectivity as has Brinker as both favor the bearish news to try to justify a certain investment posture. That is fine, but much value of the thread is lost when good news is ignored.>>

Yeah, but somebody has to balance the anti-Brinker bias which exists at the Suite 101 thread! <G>

Seriously, though, it is always to any investor's benefit to constantly be on the lookout for evidence that one's own view of the market may be wrong.

Let's see ... Brinker is probably running a huge Nasdaq trade on the long side. But we are supposedly posting bearish news? What kind of Brinkerheads are we anyway? Yes, you are right -- we should probably post more bullish Nasdaq news to justify his trading posture.

I think working & living in the Silicon valley and seeing just how many new ideas, dreams, markets etc. are actually being worked on... and how the whole World will benefit from the winning ideas, it makes me bullish for the future.

Well, six months ago, the ponytails were claiming, "We are the future!!!!". Now, the same ponytails are saying, "We have the right business model, we will be profitable in 2 to 3 years, man!" <g>

However enthusiastic and optimistic that one can be about those new ideas, dreams etc. etc., one should also wake up and realize that all those dreams have been fully discounted and then some, in today's tech stock valuations.

I keep hearing views like yours all the time. There is a tremendous amount of complacency out there. People are still buying tech stocks on margin. That is what makes me feel that the bargain basement is still several floors down...

re: service consumption vs. product consumption

bea.doc.gov

Consumption of services seems to be less volatile as opposed to retail sales, since it includes medical, education, etc.

" Anyway, more
would get into politics... 8)"

the gas problem reminds me of a story:

my brother lives in Des Moines,Iowa....
he bought a new house and found out that he had stools that could not be flushed because they always stopped up....he would flush and flush and the "stuff" would not go down...turns out the EPA had decided to reduce the amount of water you could use in new toilets....remember, if you are moving ----take your old toilet...they are worth a lot, unless you are a plumber....Yes, they are saving water in Des Moines Iowa....but of course they have always had plenty of water....water is never a problem....

Our town in sonoma county has decided to save our air...my friend just bought a new $600,000 house.....can't burn wood though.....air pollution.... he has a 600,000 house but can not burn on piece of wood..illegal!..I am glad we are being saved....Rich

"The news out of Korea is huge and yet.... did it get discussed with equal weight as the Taiwan election here on this bear thread? 8)"

I don't see where Korea and the fact that they are finally coming together carries equal weight to the potential impact of a blockade of Taiwan by china.....please explain....Rich

I agree with you! The wireless market in Korea experienced historic "negative growth" in May of just over 212,000 subscribers and we're ignoring it?! :-)

I am watching with amusement as some of my friends who bought QCOM because it is a "winner" are now underwater to the extent of 50% or even 60%! Last year's #1 S&P 500 stock is this year's #5 -- from the bottom! But, of course, these guys are putting on a brave face even as their butts are being handed to them! <g> Gotta hand it to this insane crowd -- they are truly brave even as they march off the cliff!
