Good information about Qcom though, coming from IR, one would expect as much of a positive spin as Snyder gives on the negative side. I've been too busy lately to trade, or even look at the numbers, and was surprised at the hit that qcom has taken lately. Glad I took profits on my calls about 80. Although I am still positive on qcom for the long term, due to the inevitability of cdma adoption worldwide, I've been surprised at the amount of FUD and negativity that has been generated by qcom's critics and competitors. As a technical type I love the technology, but as an investor I will remain on the sidelines for a while. Of concern to me are the viability of the patents 3-5 years out, and the competitions' ability to wait out cdma adoption, albeit at cost, while patents expire and new adaptions of cdma are found. The mathematics of cdma codes are not going to be reinveted, but their implementation in software and hardware are subject to various flavors, and unless one is a patent lawyer it is difficult to judge the robustness of qcom's patent suite. One thing that will be difficult, regardless of the patents, is to obtain full and timely payments from China Unicom and other Chinese companies unless and until China joins the rest of the economic world -- not just politically, but practically. I hate to sound so negative on qcom, because it is my biggest gainer from last year, one of my favorite companies, with tremendous technology (aside from GSTRF and NetZero, which is a different issue), and has effective management. So, while waiting for qcom to come around, I will keep sailing :-)
