I see, demonize anyone with opposing views without addressing their concerns. An age old strategy more often associated with politics and not very original. Nor very professional. Companies with integrity and a sense of propriety never engage their analyst detractors on a personal level. Instead they answer their critics with solid evidence to the contrary, admit the criticism is justified, or withhold comment. When the critic cannot be answered meaningfully then the company, if it's truly desperate, will attempt to discredit the critic by issuing emotionally charged statements about that critic designed to distract the audience from the substantive issues raised and, in so doing, create a scapegoat for the company's problems. Share price continues to spiral down: we didn't do it; our critic's at fault. (Blame him for turning the light on so that everyone can see the cockroaches run for cover.) Such machinations appear to be at work here. Nokia and Ericsson, for example, have had their ups and downs over the last decade and not once in my dealings with their representatives or in their conference calls have I heard either single out any one of the myriad analysts following them for critique, positive or negative. (I even tried to provoke Ericsson management into doing so once about four years ago regarding a UBS Warburg report that sent their price down 30% in one day and they wouldn't bite.) They have always evinced dispassionate professionalism in this aspect of their public relations. QCOM could learn a lot from both.
