Howard D. Ross Joins VerticalNet Board of Directors

HORSHAM, Pa.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--June 21, 2000--VerticalNet, Inc.
(NASDAQ:VERT), the Internet's leading global network of industrial
trading communities, announced today that Howard D. Ross, a founder of
and partner in LLR Equity Partners, L.P., a $260 million venture
capital fund, has been appointed to the Company's Board of Directors
and named Chairman of the Audit Committee. Prior to his association
with LLR, Mr. Ross was a partner at Arthur Andersen LLP, where he was
in charge of its Growth Company Practice in the greater Philadelphia
marketplace.

is a certified public accountant, is a member of the AICPA and PICPA
and serves on the board of directors of the Wharton Entrepreneurial
Center and the Agenda for Excellence Council of the University of
Pennsylvania. Ross also currently serves on the boards of Crothall
Services Group, Inc., Premier Research Worldwide, Ltd.,
eResearchTechnology, Inc. and Omnient Corporation.
