As an interesting historical footnote, Judge Jackson has had some previous experience with 3A(6).

It is my understanding that Judge Jackson presided over the Marion Barry trial, and then gave a post trial interview. It is also my understanding that, normally 3A(6) is a blanket prohibition, the intent is to keep the Judiciary out of all controversy. It is also my understanding that the Barry court held that Judge Jackson did not violate 3A(6) in the Barry matter.

This is from newspaper reports only. I have not discussed the matter with Steve Gillers, but he is probably the country's leading authority on the subject.
