it has become uncool to judge and impose restrictions on persons who are unable to control themselves according to societal standards. We now support the most contemptuous people to live out their wildest fantacies in American institutions. This suggests, as far as I can determine, that prisons have become veritable islands of hedonism, where "contemptuous" people live out their wildest fantasies in a place devoid of judgement or restriction. Many people who went into prison with a fairly remedial problem come out hardened and devient. Many are harmed seriously, even murdered by these people you don't want to take responsibility for. This suggests that prisons are absolutely horrible places, where those confined are either turned into monsters or slaughtered by their fellow prisoners. Is the prison environment too gentle, or is it too harsh? Giving them a life to live in one of our institutions however is taking responsibility for their conditions and those they hurt. Congratulations your own self. Are you suggesting that we kill them all, to spare them the horrors of life in prison? Or that we not send anyone to prison, because prison is so horrible? Or that we kill anyone we think might make prison life horrible? Are you saying that people who reject the killing of prisoners are responsible for the conditions in prisons? If so, do you really think that prison conditions in states where executions are common are any better than prison conditions in states where there are no executions? The more I read your post, the more confusing it gets. I'm honestly not sure how to discuss it, because I'm honestly not sure what it says. I wish you would try to describe, clearly, simply, and dispassionately, what you believe to be the main problems with our penal system and what practical steps you would like to see taken to solve those problems.
