I think bluetooth will concentrate on the PC as the centre of storage in any household/office. It may not be a PC but some other device with hard disks.

MMC, CF will still thrive because of the portability outside the home/office. Digital cameras and cellphones are by their nature not confined to one location. When every square foot of the globe is accessible by high bandwidth, cheap (and I mean essentially free) wireless connectivity, then you can worry about removable flash not being needed. I think we have some time left before that happens!

Some on the Yahoo! thread have carried a "wireless conquers local storage" campaign using Bluetooth as a vehicle.

This is ridiculous. What kind of investing horizon do these guys have, 20+ years? With that kind of time horizon, I would be afraid to invest in anything for the fear of obsolescence.

People don't realize that all the wireless data rates being quoted are shared rates. For individuals to achieve those kind of rates, queuing and latency will have to be managed very carefully. Wireless carriers will want to get people's data transferred in multiple bursts. Temporary storage will help smooth out those bumps.
