Their hopes are pinned instead on the next step, the U.S. Supreme Court, and the issues in yesterday's petition were framed to attract the highest court's interest. However the full 11th Circuit disposes of the case, either side can appeal to the Supreme Court.

Is there an estimate of time as to how long this process would take ?

What is the fundamental reason to retain Elian (and his father), in the US while the lawyers do their arguing ? (other than the obvious that once out of the US they are out of the [peaceful] jurisdiction of the US (not counting the marines).

It seems that retaining Elian in the US would be equivalent to place him in jail.

At the very least, the US government, should be prepared to provide an environment suitable to school Elian and his friends, under the preferences of his father...

Now, that is an interesting experiment... the US to provide some sort of "communist" environment ... at the expense of the US tax payers.

Laughable, that the Miami relatives are the ones promoting this circus, yet they trumpet capitalism and freedom blah blah blah...

ANother interesting scenario... what if Elian's father decides to stay in the US with his family... then, who provides a job for him ? (I am sure there will be lots of offers).

Then... He can decide... Well, Uncle Sam, Thanks a lot for your hospitality (say after one year), but you know what? I am going back to Cuba.. he he he he he...

Don't you think that would be a way to tell the M R to go fad?
