Jock,

Yes, LSI has clearly staked out a position in the CDMA news... of course, other than the Denso handset news from last year, we're still waiting for the other shoe to drop. A couple of thoughts on John Daane's Bear Stearns comments:

LSI Logic expects to introduce handsets based on its own code multiple division access (CDMA) technology in the fourth quarter, according to John Daane...

If they're introducing handsets in the fourth quarter, they would be shipping ASICS now, in order to complete the manufacturing, testing, and distribution activities which happen before they hit the shelves. Based on your comment, one would think they could therefore release the names of the vendors, since it seems both sides are already committed...

He estimated the company's CDMA sales could total several hundred million dollars annually in a year or two.

Estimated, and could in a year or two leaves a lot of wiggle room, don't you think? Not to mention that many of today's investors memories barely span the past week, much less remembering comments from last year, or two years ago.

Daane added that second quarter bookings have been tremendous due to booming demand for communications equipment, especially from broadband and optical networking firms.

I had to read this a couple times to realize that it doesn't say anything about CDMA ASICS (at least those in competition with QCOM). It's related to broadband and optical networking, and nobody refers to cellular as broadband just yet. So, the way I read it, they're doing a gangbuster job in communications, but I don't think it's CDMA at this point.
