They are on the board, and advisory board, to use their political connections to seek out deals - not always successfully. The company is active on several continents. You can always seek solace in the paranoid camp - but that is how public companies function. What amazes me in fact is that these companies, with so many connections, have so little influence when it comes right down to it. Because it is in the interest of all companies, in spite of the paranoids, to see the POG go up. You conveniently forget how many hundreds of thousands of shares, and options, the key managemnt players in these large companies own. I've no doubt most of them check the stock price every day. Yet you somehow subscribe to the notion that every day they act against their own self interest!!
