Hi Gene Parrott; I agree that arranging for Rambus to collect patents on all memory technologies equally will reduce the politics of the memory industry, but I doubt it will happen. But it is an interesting question to pursue. Certainly I'll hear fewer longs running down DDR on this thread. :) But the politics of the memory industry will largely remain untouched. One or two percent royalties are just not a big deal in terms of costs. There are memory companies who are tied to DDR by the weight of their prior research, and memory companies that are more connected to RDRAM. The same with the processor companies. Regardless of how memory is made, it will still be cheaper if it is made in the highest volume. Some companies will do well with this, others will do badly. Hence politics. -- Carl
