Posted on the Rambus thread:

I would say that it is hard to overestimate the importance of the this Toshiba news. Japanese companies do not throw money away on licencing IP.

Toshiba have concluded that it is better value to settle than to fight, on SDRAM and DDR. They have therefore accepted that RMBS has rights over registers internal to RAM chips controlling interface timing, which is the only independent claim from the patent which the ITC is still considering relating to SDRAM.

If this is sustained then we can expect settlements from other manufacturers including significant retrospective amounts on SDRAM already manufactured over the last 5 years, as well as a 1% tax on *all* SDRAM and DDR for 5 or more years forward from here.

Its HUGE!

RMBS the Toshiba capitulation
There can be no doubt that this lends important support to Rambus patent claims on SDRAM and DDRAM as well as RDRAM. It will be a Hitachi capitulation or judgement which finally lays the furry crown on this company. IMHO

>> is anyone watching RMBS this morning? Seems like the Toshiba capitulation could be likened to the ERICY-QCOM settlement last year.

Absolutely! You may have missed Mihaela's alert last night:

Rmbs currently trading at +24 1/4. You and Thucydidies are having a fine payday in return for your long term convictions about rdram. Congratulations.

IMO, Dr. Id, RMBS will soon be crowned a Gorilla. The reason is not just RDRAM, but the capitulation by Toshiba that RMBS has IPR for SDRAM. The crowning will occur if others capitulate or the courts uphold RMBS' claim.

Rambus

JDB,

My SI homepage shows Rambus at 81+, up 66+ and it shows as a 472% increase in the share price.

That led me to believe that (1) Rambus' 4-for-1 split took hold and (2) SI's software was wacky on handling splits. Is something more fundamental going on? When, precisely, did the Rambus 4-for-1 split take hold. TIA.
