Jesus said "No man comes to the Father except through Me." According to the Catholic Church, to be absolved of sin, one must repent - if it is not possible to confess to a priest and receive absolution, one must make a sincere Act of Contrition - a prayer to God in which you admit your sin and ask His forgiveness. No one else can do this for you. If a person is mentally deranged or defective, and unable to formulate contrition, the question is whether he was similarly deranged or defective when he committed the sin. If so, he lacked the capacity to commit sin, which is an act of free will. This is different from Original Sin, which we are all born with, and why Catholics believe in infant baptism.
