Mark,

An update on my networking.

After I finally set up both of my 'puters on my network, I reinstalled BlackIce Defender on one of them.

Not one single scan has been detected since reinstallation, which means my cable router/firewall is blocking all scans.

Not too bad for a one time fee of around $169.00, and as a bonus, I have cable access on both 'puters for one per month fee.

Have fun,
Phil

blackice beta 2.1.u...

feel like i'm carrying on this terrific conversation with myself about all this <g3>, but i'll follow up anyway...

from what i've learned, the update release identified as 2.1 is really 2.1.u, and it's a beta. i've gleaned this from the networkice (ni) message boards, not tech support. ni tech support is not a viable option for assistance, imo, at this time. i guess they're swamped.

but yes, it's a beta and there was no mention of that on any of the ni download pages. perhaps there will be a note soon. i learned quickly upon perusing the message boards that i had lots of company in the blue screen of death department. i eventually located a ni download site that offers a fix for 2.1.u .... 2.1.w

i installed 'w' on top of the buggy 'u' about three hours ago. so far so good. several posters on the ni boards had said that 'w' fixed them up. others said they needed to remove all traces of bi from their machines and start over with the last stable version, 1.9.25. that's not a bad plan.

soooooo, i hope no one else is having a prob, or that maybe if you read this you might elect to hold off on the update until the bugs get patched.

:)
