Scumbria, <I spoke with some Japanese friends in the DRAM business and found out that Toshiba is not very well thought of by the other Japanese manufacturers.>

Your friends wouldn't happen to work for Hitachi, would they?

Re: Toshiba is not very well thought of by the other Japanese manufacturers. They were described as a "weak company."

Scumbria,

This Toshiba situation is very strange and hard to interpret. It was only a few months ago the memory makers were talking of taking on Rambus in court over DDR together. How Rambus talked Toshiba into licensing DDR is beyond me. This has really got to piss off the other memory makers. There will be some big fallout over this, one way or another.

Are you picking up a July straddle? Seems like easy money to me.

Shrewd rather than weak is the word I would use

Toshiba salesman to Computer OEM...

"Well Sir, of course SDRAM is a commodity, but if you buy from us, you know that it is licenced, and you won't have problems in the future importing your equipment into the US. By the way do the other companies offer you a good indemnity on this issue?"

I know who my supplier of choice would be

JMHO!

Out of curiosity, do they work for Toshiba's competition?
Sony seems to think highly enough of Toshiba to have them as chief supplier, but what the heck do they know? <g>

PS If you do get back to your Japanese friends, could you ask them whether they think the "tsusansho" (or MITI, the powerful Ministry of International Trade and Industry) could get involved with this matter? (particularly involving Hitachi...) Thanks. Any input much appreciated.

What is your the reason for making such a statement? Do you think any long gives a sh@t what some of your Japanese friends think when their stock is up 27 points because of Toshiba's agreement with Rambus? Which other Japanese companies? Weak in what respect? Come on Scumbria... starting rumors is not your style... shame, shame.
