big recent acceleration of commercial spending (read lending) where I live --

some overexuberance that has spread to the industry that I work in (very capital intensive) -- projects that have gotten funding which wouldn't have flown pre-97 or -98 ...

the distribution of trash to the public,
e.g. there is a firm here that repackages auto loans as "investments" to the public -- heck, my dad even "invested" with them. This outfit has grown like gangbusters --

it is the same stuff that Tice and Noland harp on -- the unprecedented securitization of debt for resale to the public -- why do they do this? Banks and every other institution are already full up with questionable loans, IMO
