I pulled the trigger and picked up some ASYT near the end of the day. The numbers look good, and it is a longtime favorite of a semi equip maven whose opinion I respect.

I came to the conclusion that the AMAT rumor was too amorphous to be substantial. It didn't produce a parallel effect in PRIA or BRKS. And there was also a denial by Shearson Lehman:

Compare ASYT with BRKS and PRIA in terms of revenues, earnings, growth rates, margins and you find better numbers for ASYT. During the most recent quarter, ASYT had better revenues, better earnings, higher Y/Y and higher sequential Q/Q revenue growth. Then compare market caps. Unbelievably, ASYT now has the lowest market cap of the three. The best explanation I could come up with was ASYT's high beta -- it really moves a lot up or down.

BRKS looks interesting, particularly with a large cash pile, but ASYT looks like the bargain of the bunch. Its relative risk/reward potentials seem excellent.
