You're mentioning something I see all the time as well. Just when TICK breaks lower and/or there's an ugly expansion bar on the S&P or Naz Comp, the stock I'm watching starts a fakeout rally. After a minute or two, it finally reverses and follows the market.

My interpretation has always been that the move catches a lot of players off guard and they clean out the volume as quick as they can or goose the rally to get a little better shorting price. It's a great way for us little folk to get short as well.
