Well Keith, there is a rumor floating around...mind you it's a "rumor". It goes like this...Newbridge Networks, which was bought out by Alcatel has become a very good customer of ADI. Instead of decreasing the use of ADI DSL chip-sets...they've increased them. Remember we are talking about rumor here. However, since Newbridge is said to be having such success with the AWRE tech based ADI chips...Alcatel is rumored to be coming on board and will also license AWRE technology. To carry it further...since Intel will be bring AWRE based products to market, the rumor suggests that Alcatel would be wise to have AWRE based product offerings too...thus giving them a better chance at holding on to their market share, rather than allowing Intel to gain a good footing. Now there are some good questions I'd need to answer before I jump on to this, but number one is....what does Alcatel have to gain or loose by doing this? Their gain would be equipment sales with a loss of IP revs, but the other way could be a loss of both. Myself...if I were ALA...I'd license everything and fill my customers needs. After all it is a varied market.

OH! Did I mention this is rumor???
