Multi, I happen to know something about that nasal strip patent. The non obvious part is how to force the passages open by having a flexible strip embedded within the device applying force on the external skin at the right location. Compare that to the prior art which involved inserting hollow cylindrical structures within the nostrils (which always fell out).

Now, I am not saying that stupid patents are not granted. I believe that only 10% of all patents granted are actually embodied in products, and would expect 80% of RMBS patents to be in that category, but the other 20% gives them a solid lock. By the way, I have even seen patents granted for devices that violate the third law of thermodynamics (no perpetual motion machine), it was well hidden, but a PMM nevertheless.
