It would a little easier to save if uncle wasn't gouging the nearly 14% "self employment" tax out of me every year! no way I'll ever see that coming back in SSI. A lot os would rather spend it now and claim losses than get whacked on taxes and stash the minisclue residue in a bank at 4%. I believe that attitude is a main draw in attracting folks to the big casino on wall st.

I heard that same argument in 1989, about the lack of savings rate. That was why the Japanese were eating our lunch. Do those savings rates factor in Insurence, 401K, and other investement vehicles? Putting ones savings in a CD is an ineffient use of funds. I believe The japenese use their capital very Unefiently. I do agree that the debt problem is a concern, annd should be where the GOVT directs its efforts at reform.
