Dubya didn't betray anyone. He said that it is time to be Americans together, not unreconstructed Southern folk. Anyway, the number of slaveholders is not the issue, since working class whites did not want the competition of black labor, and believed in racial subordination. When I have a little time, I will dig up Jefferson Davis's farewell to the Senate, where he makes it clear that slavery is the issue. We respect the rights of all parents to pass on their beliefs, even when we find those beliefs offensive. That is essential to freedom. When they are older, and when they are proselytized by private groups, it is a different story.......
