marginmike, in addition to Ruff's url, Viterbi told me at the S/H meeting that the challenge to the HDR engineers at that point was getting consistent data throughput of 1 Mbps or better in average network environment--e.g., users on the move/typical cell traffic/typical cell distortion/tower issues.

In reading the text on Q's website posted by Ruffian, it staggers the mind if not the imagination that the carriers around the world should not be frothing at the mouth to deploy HDR--NOW! (or as soon as commercially available). There are so many last mile orphans--those still shackled by twisted pair and those on the move restricted to the occasional data port available in fixed locations--that I can't believe that this does not represent an elegant and flexible solution.

Not only that, but HDR availability would, imhauo, accelerate the development of wireless web applications and service providers and truly accelerate the rate of wireless web adoption.

PS Sukawatty's (I have his name wrong) resignation as CEO of Spring PCS does not leave me with a good feeling.
