No, EBV is the virus that causes mononeucleosis. About 80% of people in the US have had it at some point, but you can get it again, especially after another infection. Edwarda clearly had an infection, probably bacterial, and now what she's got, IMO, is most likely not the same infection but an unusual disorder which was able to establish itself because her immune system was weakened by the infection. I mention EBV because that's what I am working on, but these rare disorders may be precipitated by a number of viruses. Guillain-Barre, which Neenny mentioned, is one of the type of rare things a few unfortunate people get after an infection.
