Yes, I read some time ago of a man who died from breathing in the dust from chopping rotten wood. Also, when a friend bought a house that had a rotten beam hidden behind some wood panels, I started having a very severe allergic reaction (sneezing, coughing, trouble breathing) when I hammered a large nail into it and disturbed the "rotten dust".
