Elmer - Re: ". The 440BX was quite a workhorse and overdue for an update. "

The 440 BX was a huge success because of its rock solid stability and performance - when using 100 MHz SDRAMs.

Unfortunately for the 815, it has to compete with the VIA Appolo Pro 133 chip set which has supported 133 MHz SDRAMs and AGP4x for over 9 months.

Fortunately for the 815, it's MUCH FASTER than the VIA SLUG Set !!!

Judging by the published performance of VIA's Cyrix III CPU ( A REAL DOG !!!) and their Chip Sets, it may be VIA's turn to be a laughing stock for a while.

RE:"Nice to see Intel getting a mainstream chipset out there again. The 440BX was quite a workhorse and overdue for an update. Incidentally I understand that the 440BX was the highest volume logic device ever made (based on a single stepping). Here's hoping that the 815 breaks that record."

The BX is still FASTER than the Solano at the same bus speed...Why couldn't Intel top the BX with the Solano?
Why is Intel 9 months late with this crippled Rambus killing chipset? <G>
Perhaps Intel will get back to suing VIA now...
