CANADIAN SUBSCRIBERS!

I read a post on the George Gilder (GTR) website from a man in Canada:

<<I live in a small town in northwest British Columbia, population 18,000. The local Globalstar dealer has sold 15 phones in the first 6 weeks. 15 phones/18,000 in 6 weeks means 150,000 phones/180 million population (i.e. United states alone). I wouldn't worry about it any longer.>>

Now I don't pretend to know the population of Canada but for argument's sake let's assume it is 20 Million.
If he sold 15 phones in 6 weeks this means he has sold phones at the rate of 2.5 per week in this town of 18,000. If he only sold 2.5 per week over 52 weeks he would sell 130 phones for the 18,000 population.

130divided by 18,000 pop=.72% of the population buys Globalstar phones in one year.

If the population of Canada is say 20,000,000 and they sold 0.72% of the population a phone in 12 months, they would have sold 144,444 phones at the end of the year.

Note this only assumes a linear rate of sales all year accounting for perhaps a slower start in some areas of Canada. I would think it will grow in a more exponential rate as the word spreads and people see first hand a friend with a Globalstar phone.

I read somewhere that Vodafone expects to have 1,000,000 Globalstar users in Australia by 2004. They have also ordered the New Zealand Gateway indicating positive demand.

Looks pretty good to me for a new service. This company has just started. It took time for Amazon.com to build a customer base. It will take time to build Globalstar's but it will not be built in New York city or Atlanta. With almost 6 billion invested worldwide to build the system(to cover practically the whole globe), I can assure you that the founders and service providers will not abandon this venture for want of a few hundred million to operate until break even. This is a small percentage of the amount already invested.

By the way, I really love my Globalstar phone. It even works in my sitting room upstairs when I am 20 ft from my window(3-4bars of reception). This is a GREAT PRODUCT!

Sincerely,
