Isn't the value of those options steadily sinking though? That is, someone receiving a grant last year received a lesser value than the year before, and someone receiving options this year receive less than the 12 months prior. If someone were to look at the 'big picture' the way you did and give it a value, they would be disappointed at the value of their compensation (much less than they were expecting). --- Although MS apparently has a strong product in W2K, the environment they're selling into must be somewhat discouraging. The loss of developer mindshare and other stuff apart from Anti-trust must as well contribute to a mindset of being 'under seige'. While that may have *some effect of bringing employees (team) together in a circling of the wagons, at least in the short run, it's GOT to keep quality employee prospects thinking twice about signing on with MS. --- With regard to antitrust, a MS employee is put into a position of either agreeing fervently with Gates and Ballmer, fighting this thing to the last man (as it were) and making the obsession a part of the fabric, -or- not agreeing with that, in which case one would be re-thinking their whole involvment with MS (unless they're in the legal dept). -JCJ
