I think by now Edwarda would have mentioned if others had been sick at the same time.

You'd think so, but she may not have known. It seems that initially--"late Sunday"--she thought she had the flu. By Tuesday she'd begun to think it was food poisoning. But note that she also says she can't imagine where she might have got it, so she's throwing out everything in the refrigerator.

She may not have made the connection between her illness and her weekend guest or guests. And so may not have called, or, if they were as sick as she was, may not have been able to get in touch.

I once did get sick the day after giving a dinner party. I called one of the people present; she was okay. Felt lousy, didn't bother to call anyone else.

According to a PM I received from Joel Gander, someone Edwarda saw on June 3, 2000, the day she came down with the present illness, also complained about feeling ill. She tried to contact him via PM and he did not return her emails. <edit> According to Neenny, he has been located, and has been to the hospital.
