Jackson motivational tape compared Kings coach, Hitler

SACRAMENTO BEE

Los Angeles Lakers coach Phil Jackson is known
for his unique motivational tools, but one he used
during the first-round playoff series against the
Kings did not impress Sacramento coach Rick
Adelman.

Jackson likes to splice together tape of his team
juxtaposed with movies to motivate his team. This
week, ''The Green Mile'' was interspersed into the
team's film session. Against the Kings, Jackson
weaved in the face of Kings guard Jason Williams
with actor Ed Norton from the film ''American
History X.''

However, the juxtaposition of a picture of Adelman
next to one of German dictator Adolf Hitler did not
go over well with Adelman.

''If he did that, that's crossing the line, I think,''
Adelman said. ''I'm part German descent, and I
don't think he's of the people I aspire to be
compared to. Jackson said his goal was to help
change his team's mind-set

''The movie is about beliefs and how they can be changed,'' Jackson said
Friday after his team's 120-87 loss to Indiana.

The Lakers' players know that Hitler symbolized racism and terror through the
Holocaust.

Said one Laker: ''Yeah, you watch that and then you send 11 black guys out
to try and beat the team led by the coach you saw on film.''
