KyrosL, You can't compare energy consumption without considering geography and demographics. The USA is much bigger and more spread-out than any other major economy. We have a very mobile society. Those two factors are the principle causes of our greater gasoline consumption. That is not to say we are not wasteful. But, by and large, big cars go with big spaces between cities and suburban sprawl.

I really think the taxation is only a minor factor in the consumption differences. JMHO.
