Paul - RE: "Uh-Oh, Duron 650 looks faster than an Athlon 650"

Uh-Oh, AMD doesn't make the Athlon 650 anymore.

Sorry Puerile Paul-- You might want to point out this line:

On the Intel side of things, the Duron 700 is performing between a Pentium III 600 and a Pentium III 700 as well.

I also like,

A Celeron 566 overclocked to 850MHz (100MHz FSB) begins to restore competition to the value market as it can begin to measure up to the performance of the lower clocked Duron 700.

Paul,

At 1/3 the price, AMD may have shot itself in the foot AND the head and the pocketbook !!

I think I made the exact same argument with you about Celeron and PII, when they added the onboard L2.

You convinced me otherwise, but apparently you have changed your opinion. How come? ;^))

Re: Uh-Oh, Duron 650 looks faster than an Athlon 650

But Paul, AMD replaced the Athlon 650 with Thunderbird. They were able to do this because they can manufacture their current chips at high yields and high binsplits. Maybe someday Intel will be able to do the same. Meanwhile, say hello to your old friend Katmai:

What has to be the most interesting bit of news for this month is the reports that Intel will begin shipping Katmai processors in volume once again. Yes, I am talking about Slot 1 Pentium III 550, 600 and (perhaps) 650MHz processors in quantity. One manufacturer told me that Intel notified them last week that as much as 60% of all shipments will be comprised of these processors until at least September.

60%? Ouch!
