I think I know Tazio intimately enough that I can answer this. Out common ancestor was probably a creature that gave rise to both human animals AND apes and monkeys- but was, itself, neither. It was a proto-ape/hominid.

And btw his lovely sister SWEARS she's never met you and since the nuns at the girls school swear (naughty nuns for swearing, eh?) she's been quite a good girl I think we'll just have to assume you took a long walk off a short pier.

Do you come from a heritage of monkeys?
Actually we all derive from a heritage of chimpanzees. This is a distinct familial class from monkeys. Humans now have relatively little variation because a population bottleneck about 100,000 years ago brought the entirety of our ancestry down to 10,000 individuals or less. That event marks our deepest shared history.
