Barb - it's not fantasy, it's a simple equation - WHEREVER there is money to be made, the chances for criminals to be involved is not an unreasonable assumption. It is beyond the scope of reason to assume that there is not such thing as a criminal short seller... there simply HAS to be, unless short selling isn't a way to make money.

Cold, hard evidence suggests that criminals are interested in making easy money as often as possible. Short selling is as much of a way of doing that as is any other method of investing. So there is no fantasy on my part, only the realization that criminals are everywhere money is... and to assume that they do not short sell and attempt to manipulate a stock on the way down would be as ludicrious as assuming that some investors do not try to manipulate a stock on the way up.
