John, it would be hard to believe that Transmeta would be disruptive to Intel.

I think that goes without saying.

My understanding is that RISC or like technology such as Transmeta is introducing is not new and many have been banging their heads against the wall for some time now in order to perfect it. I posted a detailed discussion between to engineers yesterday that underscores some of the skepticism surrounding Transmeta's claims.

I think the distinct possibility remains that the mobile market will have much different requirements than the laptop segment and that no one standard will win out. Functionality will be tapered down and distilled into the most desirable consumer applications. These will compete for board space. Add to the mix the FCC decision to require GPS functionality to newer lines of cell phones and you will see that things will be highly specialized and that no single solution is likely to suffice.

OT: John, I had forgotten that the Compaq iPAQ uses an Intel 206 MHz StrongARM processor.

I know its not a Pentium III, but based on my Cassiopeia E-100 experience you don't really need a Pentium III anyway.

Are you aware of the CPU's being used by most cell phone manufacturers?
What will WAP and 3G require in this regard?
Are these off-the-shelf solutuions or specialty products?
