MINNEAPOLIS (CBS.MW) - Digital River shares plunged 23 percent Thursday morning after the company warned of a sales shortfall in the second quarter.

The e-commerce services company (DRIV: news, msgs) said second-quarter sales would fall short of analysts estimates.

The company anticipates sales to be in the range of $30 million to $30.5 million, due to a slow period for its software services unit.

However, the company said it does expect to meet or beat the consensus estimate of a 40-cent per share loss.

Shares fell 2 3/8 to 7 7/8 in early trading Thursday.
