UUplink.. Single mode G* phone is in certification process with FCC.. Which I don't understand why they bother with FCC certification anymore.. Since it is my understanding that ITU approval is accepted by the Commission.. If memory serves me it took MOT about 8 weeks to get the 9505 Type Approved.. Which kind of amazed me that it was done so fast..

I would expect (my guess) that the phone will be announced when it is ready for production.. My guess is.. The end of next month.. (Guess only).. Maybe sooner.. Remember, MOT announced the 9505 before it received Type Approval...

I would also postulate that the phone will be shipped "data capable" as is... The current phones will have to be re-programmed.. My guess, is that it may have to go back to QCOM for this upgrade though.. So data capable will mean that it will require some sort of interface to the outside world.. Probably a USB port since the QCOM next generation MSM3100 Mobile Station Modem incorporates a USB controller, and we may see some SnapTracs GPS utility inside also.. Even though I think the GPS portion would have to be "factory software defeatable" since GPS devices are outlawed in some countries.. Remember, the QCOM employee that got "thrown in the pokey" and accused of spying for using a GPS device while surveying cell sites in Russia for one of QCOM's now defunct investment ideas.

So I would guess that it will sport a USB device, and GPS.. Now, If they only made a mating connector (snap on) to dock a Visor or Palm device to the back of the phone, and could integrate the G* system with Palm Net.. Now you would have something to write home about.. And an installed user base to sell the device to.. Heck, let Palm and Handspring sell them as accessories to their current users...

But again.. This is G*.. We wouldn't really want to find a market for this system.. Nahh!! Better stick with the Govt and mining markets..
