I am sure that is true- just as believers cannot understand rational people who do not believe. Lots of believers THINK they can understand people who do not believe- but what they fail to understand is that in some sense they were looking for something, whereas many real agnostics are not, and are happy the way they are. I think that it is impossible for someone who was not happy without a belief system to understand someone who is happy and at peace without one.

The pain of childbirth is irrelevant, IMO. Whether it lasts for an hours, 12 hours, or 36 hours, what really matters is the child. My own husband is as much a parent as I am, and that's not just feminist jargon.

Some people may experience belief mystically. Others love man without mysticism. Our own X is one of the most benevolent, humanitarian people I know and have ever known.
