OK, but if Mr. Y and Mr. Z work as hard as Mr. X, they "deserve" more widgets, too. On the other hand, my friend would have said that he deserved the extra widgets not because he worked harder, but because he was disabled and couldn't work harder. He really was disabled, no question about it. No fault of his own, either. And since then, a lot of hemophiliacs have died because of AIDS in their blood transfusions, which is also not fair. But I think fairness has nothing to do with how many widgets a hemophiliac gets on the basis of being hemophiliac.
