I had forgotten that the Compaq iPAQ uses an Intel 206 MHz StrongARM processor
So far, their only design win in that space.

Are you aware of the CPU's being used by most cell phone manufacturers?
Current generation I think the leaders are TI and MOT.

What will WAP and 3G require in this regard?
The standards war is just getting started. Some info on what Intel is doing with 3G:

Are these off-the-shelf solutuions or specialty products?

Right now, they seem to be custom solutions. Certainly early in the product evolution.

Although the "post-PC era" is a popular buzz word, I don't think anyone has a good conceptual picture of where we will be in five to ten years. PC growth is still accelerating. Sony PS2 (this fall) and Microsoft X box (an Intel design win, next year), I personally think will change the landscape more dramatically than wireless, at least in the near term. As the Internet becomes more rich in audio and video, handhelds just don't seem (to me) to be the best solution to access information. My analogy would be the old "transistor" radios or portable TV's, nice to have but not something that replaces the stereo or standard TV.

My crystal ball is at best defective.
