Scumbria: I have been really, really busy the past few days so have not had a chance to keep up with all the news over the weekend. A few questions: (Carl, kick in if you want)

1. Any sign of that DDR chipset yet? Since Rambus may well collect royalties from DDR production, I am now very much in a hurry to get the darn thing into the marketplace. What can I do to help?

2. Seriously, why do you have such a big problem with a purely IP company saying that it does not want to cross-license because the other firm has nothing it wants? What would Rambus take in trade? What they may well take in the future is stock. Warrents. Don't be surprised if this is one ultimate solution. However, Rambus is going to be careful in this area, IMHO. Still, it makes great sense for an IP company to build a nice portfolio of growing companies' stock.

3. If Rambus fails to properly price its patent rights to customers, you can bet the industry will search for and find alternatives. If there are many better chip to chip technologies out there or capable of being developed, and Rambus is oppresive in its current "cock of the walk" position, I am sure alternatives will be found. This will be good for the industry, as it will incent innovation...always a positive, don't you agree? However, getting the dramurai and their cohorts to agree on anything is like herding cats....very tough. So, look for lots of chest pounding and hand wringing but very little in the way of concerted action. Because Rambus has a business plan, and the patents, and powerful friends, I think they will prevail over the disorganized opposition.

4. What is with all this concern about Rambus "not being liked". Now Toshiba is "not liked" by the other Dram companies. Since when is popularity critical to success in what is, frankly, the bloody business of high tech? I would be far more concerned if Rambus was considered unprofessional or flighty with its earnings outlook than that it was "not liked". However, I believe it is considered quite professional and I know it to be conservative in its outlook. that is another reason by the recent almost giddy statements are very, very compelling. In contrast to past declarations it sounds like they have really belled the cat this time.

Have a great day.
