The pension fund said it increased its investments in California with a decision to place more than $1.1 billion in new real estate and private equity investments. Calpers said its investment committee approved four investments that?ll target the state's burgeoning biotechnology industry, real estate industry, and small companies and businesses in underserved urban and rural communities. Calpers created the California Biotechnology Fund, a $500 million investment vehicle aimed at capitalizing on genomics, related computer technology and new drugs. >
