OK, here is why I want to leave left vs right out of the debate - liberalism and conservatism are political views that came into existence in the western hemisphere within the last two hundred years or so. Fairness is a much older concept, and probably universal, although how one culture would define fairness isn't the same as another. So let's take the left vs. right blinders off, please, and consider the entire world and maybe the entire universe and all of time?
